Solid
wood is just that – one piece that is milled
from lumber. It comes in a variety
of widths, from 2-1/4" to
5" wide. It also comes in different thicknesses: 3/4" is
standard, but you can also find "thin profile" solid
that is 5/16" thick.
Engineered
wood is real wood, but instead of one solid
piece it consists of three
to 10 thin layers of wood,
called plies, that are assembled and glued in a cross-ply
construction. The top layer of wood can range from 1/16" to
1/6" thick. Overall board
thickness ranges from
1/4" to 3/4". Due to its multi-ply structure,
engineered wood
is much more stable than solid wood and
is less susceptible to shrinking and
expanding with changes
in temperatures and humidity.
Janka
Hardness Scale is one good way
to tell the hardness of different woods.

Where is the room?
Knowing where the floor will be installed is essential. Before choosing a floor, determine if the room is above, on or below ground level (grade). Mohawk Engineered Hardwood Floors can be used in most areas in the home including rooms below, on or above ground level. Solid wood floors are approved for above ground-level installations only. These floors perform better in humidity-controlled environments.
Is your sub floor concrete
or a type of wood
substrate? Engineered
floors are idealfor
concrete slabs. For
remodel projects you may
want to consider Mohawk Engineered Hardwood
floors that can be floated
directly over the existing
floor which eliminates the
mess and additional costs
of tearing out the old floor.

Goodfellow's first lumber yard in Montreal.Today, Goodfellow
remanufactures and distributes a wide range of lumber and
wood products that meets and surpasses the new realities
of environmental concerns and market needs.

Hartco wood, as well as Bruce Flooring
Many
species of hardwood change color over time, after exposure
to sunlight. The degree of change depends upon the species
of the wood: for example, cherry changes color quickly
and dramatically when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light.
